The atmosphere was very good and the people were very kind. You can walk to the village, the locks, ride a bike and come back to relax and watch the ships. The noise of the road in between is not disturbing.
Independently owned and operated with family feel. Watching the ships move through the locks was interesting. The hotel itself was quiet, and the ambience in the office and breakfast room was inviting.
Our room was hot, noisy (from the air conditioning), and quite outdated. No phone in the room! The shower did not have a pressure balancing valve, so if someone flushed a toilet, you could get scalded. We also found the WIFI was iffy at best (though a companion in another room closer to the office did not experience this). The continental breakfast consists of coffee/tea, orange juice, bread for toast, and some freshly baked muffins- no protein sources.
Watching the ships go through the lock from our balcony was awesome. Owners, Ed and Patty are very friendly and accomodating. A great value!
Was hoping for a bigger continental breakfast. Had muffins, toast, coffee, O.J., the necessities to get you started.
Fabulous view of Lock 7, convenient to view the entire Welland Canal system. Recommend for the above reason only.
The place was lacking maintenace all over. Light bulbs burned out, outlet in bathroom did not work, covers loose on heat registers, outer hallway littered with debris, carpet in hallway tatered.
The Locks, it was just wonderful to see all the ships traveling in & out of the Locks. We went to Lock 7 & Lock 3 Visitors center. They were great.
It would of been nice to have the TV screen that was in the office showing the Ships on a channel on the TV's in the room.
The unique feature of seeing ships from your back door entering and leaving the locks.
The age of the place. Looks like nothing has changed since the 1950's
My husband was thrilled watching the ships travel through the lock right in front of us. It was quiet and very comfortable. A real neat little town.
Would have liked a little more variation for breakfast. The muffins were great though.
The owners were very friendly and helpful...ended up at a local Pub and had one of the best meals on our trip. We saw several ships come in and out of the locks and even though it had been 25 years since we had stayed there, it was just as nice as it was before!
The beds were not that comfortable.
The lock. Lots of ships this ti me. Close to everything
It was quaint and cozy. The rooms were friendly. The rooms were a little dated but very clean. The view of the lock and passing ships was spectacular. The highlight of the continental breakfast was the homemade muffins. Everyone needs to stay here at least once.
They need to have a coffee maker and also a hair dryer in the room.
The ships passing throughout the day through the locks were amazing-We had an up front view from the comfort of our balcony (we were on the 2nd floor) and if we chose a great viewing point to see the entire lock was a short walk away. Also lots of water pressure in the shower (and had a head to get a pulsing spray)
The rooms are dated but they were very clean.
We had stayed there about 10 years ago and were very pleased because of the location....right on the canal with the lake ships, etc. right there! Great sitting on patio/balcony and watching the huge lakers and beautiful private yachts travel thru.
The Inn needs updating - beds are uncomfortable, I know it's old but we would never stay again as room felt so damp, two tiny bars of soap for 3 days....also, breakfast opens at 7:30a.m. which is late in our day
Reasonable rates, quiet, clean. Very nice couple owner/ managers!
Could use a refresh!
It was nice to be able to watch the boats in the locks out the back patio.
Quiet location overlooking the canal
Make it clear upon booking that you must check in by 10.00 P.M. If it had not been for us having extra time early in the morning we would not have been back in time.
